It is a potentially semi-evergreen succulent shrub, that grows to around 1- 3 m in height. The thickened stems taper gradually upwards and may be rigid and upright or, less commonly, rather weak and spreading. Young plants have a small, ovoid caudex, and old specimens in habitat have large swollen basal caudexes. Shiny green narrow leaves to light. The Flowers range from pink to reds with even a white form in nature and often flower through the winter.

It is shrubby with smaller caudexes, apparently from intergrading with A.Obesum, a small tree to 15 feet tall with a very wide-based, distinctly conical caudex . The leaves are narrowly linear, usually strongly crisped, and prominently white-veined. The flower is smaller than that of A. Obesum, the color fades toward the throat.

It is the giant of the genus, forming a conical trunk/caudex several metres tall. The stems of the single clone available to us are strongly vertical and distinctly striated a unique character in the genus. The leaves are dark green with a white midrib and light major veins. This magnificent species is virtually unknown in cultivation, so its performance cannot be described with confidence. |

It is distinct from Adenium obesum on its leaves, growth form and flowering characteristics. The leaves of this species have a gracious surface, somewhat broad with distinct venation when compared to the standard type. Leaves also tend to be larger and somewhat more leathery in appearance. Growth form is always squat and fat with a definite caudex without much differentiation between trunk and branches. Skin is also somewhat more colored in purple to dark brown colors. Flowers range from pink to reddish pink.
